I’m a big fan of Melaneia Warwick’s work and her beautiful new book – a collaboration with writer Peter Wilkin – explores the concept of ekphrasis (the description of existing or imagined art works). Wilkin was invited to respond to Gloaming, an exhibition of Warwick’s paintings and drawings featuring objects borrowed from friends’ houses then drawn from memory after a prolonged process of familiarization. Both capture the magic that begins to happen as twilight encroaches….
Warwick has also been selected for the Venice Biennale, producing two works that are small enough to be dispersed by a vending machine but much more like thought-provoking talismans (one needs to be illuminated to expose its materials) to assist in the process of creation.
